HISTORY
The K. L. S. College was established in 1957 by renowned educationist, generous and a great social reformer Late Shri Kanhaiya Lal Sahu. Nawada has produced many bright leaders in past, but the name of K. L. Sahu always stand apart and taken with deep respect because of his work in establishing institutions of repute. K L S High School and Prajatantra Dwar is other prominent landmark that first originated from the nimble mind of K. L. Sahu. The first principal of the college Shri Vasudeo Prasad and the Secretary Shri Radheshyam has contributed their effort to the all round development of college during the infant period of the K. L. S. College. Thereafter, talents, impression, hard – work and dedication of several gentlemen has proved concrete milestone in the development of the college and spreading education among the people of Nawada and neighboring districts of Bihar. The name of few such personalities is Smt. Munni Devi, Shri Shiv Narayan Prasad, Dr. Surya Prakash Narayan Puri, Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh, Shri Mudrika Singh, Shri Sukdeo Prasad. Verma, Shri Shyam Sundar Prasad, Smt. Gayatri Devi, Shri Laxmichand Hitashi, Sri Gauri Shankar Keshri and Shri Amrit Prasad. The excellent role of Late Devraj Ram (Prof – in – Charge) of this college is unforgettable for his constant and arduous effort to make this college a standard icon of the educational institute.
Since its inception to 1972, the college was running in the private house of the first President of the college Late Shri K. L. Sahu near station road. In 1966, Smt. Munni Devi, wife of Kanhai Lal Babu has donated the land for the college and the construction of separate building and premises started there. In 1972, K. L. S. College started running its operations in newly constructed own buildings. Since then the college infrastructural and academic environment facilities witnessed many fold development.
Intermediate level course in Arts and Humanities has been started in 1957 and immediately in 1958 degree level courses in Arts and Humanities has also been started. By the mid of 1976, degree level courses in several subjects under the Arts, Humanities and Science streams has been started. In 1981 - 82, the college got permission for degree level course in Chemistry and Mathematics. In 1984, the affiliating University eventually gave permission to introduce the degree level course in Commerce stream. In 1986 – 88, the college got permission to start degree level course in Hindi, Political Science, Economics, and Urdu.
In 1978, it has become a constituent unit of Magadh University, Bodh Gaya and subsequently gained recognition by the UGC under section 2(f) and 12(B) in 1983. Since then the K. L. S. College has grown by many folds and now a day college is a well known educational body in the Gaya Division and offering various courses in Science, Arts, Humanities, Business Administration and Computer Science.
Kanhai Lal Sahu College (K.L.S. College) is one of the reputed institutions which is well administered and offer good infrastructure, facilities and excellent academic activities in Nawada which is in the state of Bihar and this college excels not only in Academic activities but also in Extra-curricular activities and in Sports too. Students graduated from this college are placed in top level reputed Govt., PSUs and Private organizations.
